I waited for months watching deals before I finally jumped on this one. I got it from Costco on sale for ~$1750 shipped.
I bought it because it had basically all the features I wanted, and the weak points were the lowest things on my priority list. Size, 1080p, fast response, contrast ratio, and 3 hdmi ins were my biggest wants. There’s also a variety of composite, component, and s-video ins, including a set of inputs on the side where they can be easily accessed.
The video is GREAT! It is crystal clear I saw some tvs at best buy that looked like they had a frame rate problem or something, jittery looking. Not here! Viewing angle is great, as is with all LCD’s. The contrast is fine, I can see it no problem, even when we open up the blinds and let the sun in. The specs say 2000:1, some tvs are higher, but I hear different manufacturers measure differently, so the number is a lot of marketing and doesn’t mean a lot. In this case it’s sufficient.
I’m not sure how good the upscaling is - the night I got the tv home, we put our standard def directv receiver on it, and it looked horrible. We were actually considering returning it, it was intolerable. We got a new HD-DVR from dtv, and it upconverts SD programming, and looks 100x better, so I’m glad we waited.
Our upscaling dvd player looks great, it’s connected via HDMI. Sometime dvds look like HD to me, it’s certainly a lot better than my old 36″ crt could do!
The audio is TERRIBLE! Easily the worst thing about this tv IMO. 2x 8 watt speakers I beleive, and they resonate low-mid freq’s like crazy at higher volumes, like 50% and higher.. I think I should be able to turn the volume HALF way up without breaking up! I messed with the audio and EQ settings forever.. You can kill the resonance if you turn the 1st few sliders of the eq WAAAAY down, but then it sounds tinny and unnatural anyway.. I saw other complaints about audio, but I didn’t really care because I run audio thru a receiver anyway. If you can keep it quieter, or use a receiver, then it’s not an issue. I have little kids, I NEED loud 
Another minor con is the ‘Automatic’ screen resize - the tv never gets it right! It’s a widescreen, and 4:3 programming gets stretched 100% of the time in ‘automatic’ mode. If you want to make it look normal with the black pillars, you have to force it to 4:3. Then change it back when you watch a movie or whatever..
I can’t vouch for the durability, as I’ve only had it for a few months now. I have other Philips/Magnavox stuff and can’t recall any problems with any of it. They’re a good name, I assume it’ll last a while.
Overall, I love it! It looks great, the picture is great, the menus are easy to use and understand. I’d recommend it all day if you don’t care about audio. You can’t beat it for the price.
