I’ve had my television for two months now and still not sure I consider it a “good buy”. I got a sweet deal on it sure enough. $1500.00 is still a good price now, but you do get what you pay for. The resolution is the best around still although other brands are starting to offer 1920×1080. Sound from the speakers is OK, but I run 7.1 surround through my stereo so I don’t care about that. There are two dead pixels I’ve found so far but once your about 10 inches from the screen you can’t see them. Based on that, I could say I like my purchase. I like watching DVD’s, HDTV looks great, and I have my PC plugged in thru one of the DVI ports and the games are crystal clear.
Then comes the dark and stormy times. About two weeks after purchase, I noticed a quirk. I tried to turn the TV off via the remote and it wouldn’t respond. None of the buttons would. I walked up to the TV and tried those buttons…nothing. I had to go out of town on business so I figured I’d handle it when I got back. When I got back, I contacted Best Buy whom I purchased it from and they said, “It’s been over 30 days since you purchased it, there is nothing we can do. You’ll have to contact Westinghouse”. That in itself got my blood a bit heated. Best Buy could’ve handled this better in my opinion. They did, at least, give me Westinghouse’s tech support line, and so I called them.
My first call went rather smooth, the person was helpful, took my information, and said he will send a technician to my house. He seemed kind of monotone which made me feel weird, but whatever, my TV’s going to get fixed. Well….. 1 week later, TV is still broken, no sign of the repair guy. I call Westinghouse again. Wayne answers the phone, and he has a monotone voice, too. Ugh, what is it with these people. Wayne doesn’t even let me get my whole sentence out before stating flatly, “I cannot tell you when the technician will be there. There is nothing I can do. You’ll just have to wait.” I tried to explain I have been waiting a week already, but he didn’t want to hear it. His attitude made me feel like I was bothering him for calling and asking what’s going on. I was most disappointed, but, then again, this is probably why Westinghouse is not known as an industry leader when it comes to any product they manufacture. I doubt I’ll buy a Westinghouse ever again.
