Kids just got these for Christmas. One has been working fine for a few hours, the other is all ready to pack back up and exchange for new. The DVD player quit working through it’s first movie (Cars). All it does now is click and play the first 10-15 seconds of whatever DVD (Cars, Barnyard) we play.

So, I’ve got one that has worked for six hours with no problems and one that’s worked for the length of half a movie and is already broken. I mounted both of them to the wall, neither was dropped, kids didn’t stick bubble gum in them, pour coke on them, etc. I expect more from a maker of electronics that’s been around for quite some time. I know Audiovox is not a great product, but for the cost, even comparative cost of other similar products, this item should be a solid choice.

Even if it weights more than what it should (more than a similar sized portable PC), this TV set is just the right size for easy portability. The display is very sharp (1024 x 768) and can be used with a PC (no DVI port). In fact, its sharpness renders the bad quality of the TV signal… even when used with a standard satellite receiver and the S-Video signal (all the MPEG blocks become visible), which could let someone things that the image is not good, but it’s the opposite! It too clear!!! When viewing a high-res DVD, wow!

DVD operation is easy, and the loading mechanism is efficient. The remote control is straightforward. There are two setup menus, on for the TV/monitor and one for the DVD…

The only thing I don’t like is the sound. I recommend the use of an amplified speaker set with sub-woofer, because the on-board speakers are among the worst speakers I’ve seen for years!
