Introduction

When it comes to buying gadgets and computer stuff, I am very conservative. My philosophy is, if it is not broken, why buy a new one? If you read my other reviews, I only buy new phones only when the old one breaks.

While some of my friends and relatives who decided to replace their CRT monitors to the flat screen monitors showed off their new expensive flat screen monitors, I was still using a 19-inches IBM CRT monitor that I bought in 2001.

The beloved 19-inch IBM CRT monitor finally gave up in August 2007. One day, I turned on my computer and the 19-inches CRT monitor just died, but I said “Yes! finally!” Now I could gave a reason to my wife and myself why we needed a new flat screen monitor The next day, I went straight to Best Buy after work to shop for a new monitor.

Why Did I Buy The Westinghouse L2410NM

When I walked around the computer area at Best Buy, I saw all kinds of cool monitors from 17 inches monitors all the way up to 32 inches monitors! I really wanted to buy the 32 inches monitors, but I wasn’t willing to spend $900 on a monitor. I was there for a long time, since there are so many choices, my first choice was the Sony 26 inches flat screen monitor, it was beautiful but the price was $795.95, so I had to skip that. My second choice was the Samsung 24 inches, because the Samsung has the AUDIO/VIDEO output, but again, the price was $695.95.

Then I saw the Westinghouse 24 inches monitor, wow the quality of the screen is superb! The colors are very vivid and the black shiny finish is gorgeous! The Westinghouse regular price was $524 and it was on sale for $389! Yes, $389!!! for a 24 inches flat screen monitor. I couldn’t say no to a bargain! So I asked the sales representative to get me the Westinghouse L2410NM.

What Do I Like About This Monitor?

I am a web designer and now I can see what I am working on very clearly! I should have replaced my 19-inch CRT monitor a long time ago! The quality of the screen is amazing! It melts my heart away every time I look at it without melting my wallet away. I love the 1920×1200 sharp and clear resolution, oh my God, this is AWESOME! I felt like singing the Hallelujah chorus when I saw this.

More Screen Working Space. I have a lot of screen working space now when I work on graphic or web design works. I can create large dimension Photoshop file without scrolling left, right, up or down anymore. I can put all the tools I need on the screen. I don’t even have to zoom in or out anymore. This screen is perfect for graphic or web designers.

The price!I checked the price at online stores and the difference is only $20 to $40 to the sales price. Newegg.com was selling it for $340 shipping, so if I bought it online, I wouldn’t save that much.

It is awesome for gaming!If you like playing computer games, this is the monitor! Oh yeah!, man the 1920×1200 resolution is extremely sharp! I bought the NVIDIA 7900GT, and wow the video card and this monitor really go together! Computer games look so good on 1920×1200 screen resolution

The quality of the screen is EXTREMELY SHARP AND CLEAR,I can read news, articles and text on MS WORD very clear! It is not blurry at all. The screen light doesn’t hurt my eyes anymore. I love to write and I used to have a very painful migraine from working and starring at the 19-inches CRT monitor too long. I no longer have migraine anymore.With this flat screen monitor, you can say “Good bye” to migraine.

AUDIO/VIDEO INPUT. I can play a DVD by using my Kawasaki Portable DVD player and watch the DVD movie on this Westinghouse 24 inches screen. There are several different inputs, like S-VIDEO, digital inputs and composite input.

Netflix instant movies look awesome on this screen! Woo hoo, if you subscribe to Netflix, you can watch their instant movies online and it looks very good on this monitor!

Energy SaverThis monitor has a built-in ENERGY SAVER! When you are not using the monitor, the monitor simply will turn itself off! It will turn itself on again when you turn your computer on. You don’t have to keep turning the monitor on and off, it will turn itself on and off. AWESOME!

The Monitor is so light and it is not heavy at all! If you have back problem like I do,this monitor is perfect. My 19-inches CRT monitor was VERY HEAVY. You can hold this 24 inches flat screen monitor with one hand. It is so light.

Space saver.It doesn’t take so much space! Since it is flat, so it doesn’t take so much space on my work desk. My desk looks very neat and clean!

What I Hate About This Monitor?

There is nothing perfect in this world, there is always something missing in something we like the most. So the Westinghouse L2410NM is not perfect either.

There is no headphone jack. One thing I noticed the most when I got the monitor out of the box was, there was no HEADPHONE jack! I said “What the h…?! Are they kidding me?” Then I realized, I am going to use this Flat screen monitor for my computer, so why do I need the headphone jack for? I can get the sound straight from my sound card headphone jack, so #1 problem solved.

Built-in speakers sound quality is bad.The Westinghouse L2410NM comes with built-in speakers. The quality of the sound that comes out of these speakers is AWFUL! It sounds like FM radio and I am not kidding! I said “oh man!” Again, I am using this for my computer, so I muted the monitor speakers and get the sound straight from my SOUND BLASTER sound card.

There is no REMOTE CONTROL!I almost fainted when I found that out. The Samsung and Sony come with a remote control, the Westinghouse L2410NM doesn’t have a remote and you’ll never ever be able to use a remote on the Westinghouse! You have to adjust everything by pressing these annoying buttons on the right side of the monitor. Well, a lot of people gain weight because they no longer walk to their TV set to adjust the volume, so since I am using this monitor for my computer, I don’t mind leaning forward once in a while to adjust the monitor settings.

This monitor is a little bit complicated to adjust.The adjustment buttons are so annoying since it is located on the side! It took me a while before I was able to use the buttons. There is a learning curve on how to adjust the monitor. What a bummer! If you are not familiar with complicated computer screen, this part will annoy you for a while.

There is no DVI connector and it only has VGA connector! Well, my dual screen NVDIA video card has dual DVI connector, so I have to use DVI to VGA converter in order to use the monitor. What a bummer, I was kind of disappointed about this. A monitor this good should have the DVI connector. The Sony and Samsung have the DVI connector.

Will I Recommend The Westinghouse L2410NM?

Yes, absolutely! If you are tight on budget and you want to have a nice looking flat screen monitor for your computer at home, this is the monitor that you want to buy, but if you want to use this monitor for an entertainment system, don’t even think about buying it. It is fine for computer monitor use only. You will be disappointed if you want to use it as a TV! The sound that comes out of this monitor is bad and since there is no Audio/Video output, you can not output the audio to a better sound system.If you are using this monitor for a computer use and you have Sound Blaster sound card on your computer, the bad sound quality problem won’t be a problem anymore.

Conclusion

The Westinghouse L2410NM is a great monitor with a great price! The quality of the screen is extremely good and sharp. The colors are vivid and it is a perfect screen for computer use only. It is a great monitor especially for designers and computer gamers. If you like to write like me, this monitor is great too, since, you can see what you are typing very clearly on the screen.
